Coaching
Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program (CSCP)
The Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) has relinquished the entire Canadian Snowboard Coaching Program (CSCP) to the Canadian Snowboard Federation (CSF).
The CSF has now adopted the new competency-based NCCP as the professional training standard for all current and future coaches.
In the new NCCP, a coach is described as:
- In Training--when a coach has completed some of the required training for a context;
- Trained--when a coach has completed all required training for context;
- Certified--when a coach has completed all evaluation requirements for a context.
A context is described as the "milieu" or the "environment" a coach is working in, or according to the level of athlete a coach is working with (athlete age-coaching context):
- Learn to Ride-Basic
- Train to Train-Introduction
- Train to Compete-Development
- Train to Win-High Performance
* The CSCP will not change past CASI coach certification titles nor will it grandfather new titles for certification achieved under the old CASI system.
Each coach must register as a Canada~Snowboard/Alberta Snowboard member (cost $30.00). At that time, you may also purchase your coaching license (additional $25.00). Due expire annually on June 30.
By purchasing your Coaching License, you will have liability insurance if you are:
- In a PSA registered club;
- At an activity sanctioned by a Provincial Snowboard Association;
- If an independent coach is delivering a curriculum recognized by the CSF.
The Basic coach will now consist of a single 3-day workshop focusing on basic speed, air, and coaching skills. In-depth discipline specific training will only begin at the Comp Intro Level.
