Freeride Snowboarding Joins the FIS Family
Big news for the freeride community! Freeride snowboarding has been officially recognized as an FIS discipline, marking a major milestone for the sport. As part of this integration, FIS and the Freeride World Tour (FWT) are working together to create new opportunities and development pathways for athletes at all levels, potentially even paving the way for future Olympic inclusion. You can read more about this update on the FWT site here.
Membership and FIS License Requirement
For the 2024/2025 season, Canadian Freeride World Tour athletes will be required to purchase both a PTSA membership and a FIS Freeride License through our registration system. While this does not impact insurance this season, it is required for eligibility on the tour.
Jr. Freeride Development
In addition to supporting elite freeride athletes, we’re working on developing a Jr. Freeride pathway to offer young riders new opportunities to engage in the sport. Alberta Snowboard is working on an event for the Spring of 2024 and hopeful to provide resources for young freeriders, so please stay tuned for more information!
