SPORT ACCIDENT INSURANCE PROGRAM (SAIP)

The Sport Accident Insurance Program (SAIP) is a program operated by Canada Snowboard available to members in good standing with both Alberta Snowboard and Canada Snowboard for approved sanctioned competition and training.

IMPORTANT SAIP INFORMATION

SAIP is only valid during Canada Snowboard sanctioned activities and competitions, including travel to and from the location of a Canada Snowboard sanctioned activity, and coverage 24 hours per day during the time period. SAIP will cover any gaps in coverage or remaining medical expenses in addition to providing worldwide assistance in medical case management.

SAIP provides tertiary coverage. In the event of an accident, claimants must first claim medical incurred expenses through their Canadian Provincial healthcare plan and private health care plan (e.g., employment medical benefits)

SAIP Members are solely responsible for initiating an in-country or out-of-country claims. Canada Snowboard nor Alberta Snowboard will not manage claims on behalf of the claimant.

Canadian FIS licensed athletes at minimum are mandated to have SAIP Class 3 insurance purchased, covering in Canada FIS competition. Should a Canadian FIS licensed athlete travel for training or competition out of country, they will be required to upgrade to SAIP Class 1 or 2 depending the number of days out of country. All upgrades MUST be completed in advance of trip departure.

SAIP insurance MUST be purchased in advance of departure from Canada – SAIP cannot be purchased after departure from Canada.

SAIP Class 1,2,4 or 5  is valid from the date the individual departs Canada for the the sanctioned out of country trip.

*** SAIP is NOT available for non-Canadian FIS licensed athletes.

SAIP insurance is an annual program and expires June 30th of the season purchased.
