Volunteering with Alberta Snowboard
Are you passionate about snowboarding and looking to get more involved in the sport? Volunteering with Alberta Snowboard is a great way to support the snowboard community, get behind-the-scenes experience at events, and help athletes succeed from grassroots programs to high-performance competitions.
The Role of Officials and Volunteers
Snowboard Officials are essential to running safe and successful events. Officials work at various levels of competition, ensuring that events adhere to safety standards and rules, while also creating a fun and positive environment for athletes. Volunteers play crucial roles in supporting the smooth operation of events, whether it’s helping with timing, scoring, or setting up courses.
At Alberta Snowboard, we rely on volunteers for a wide range of roles, including:
Event Set-Up & Tear-Down: Assisting with preparing the course or event venue.
Competition Support: Timing, scoring, and assisting with technical elements of competitions.
Athlete Support: Helping athletes with event registration and guiding them through the competition day.
General Event Assistance: Supporting various logistical aspects of events, including check-in, volunteer coordination, and equipment management.
Whether you’re new to the sport or a seasoned snowboarder, volunteering with Alberta Snowboard is a rewarding way to contribute to your local snowboard community.
Becoming an Official
Alberta Snowboard, in partnership with Canada Snowboard, offers opportunities for individuals interested in becoming Technical Officials. These are specialized roles in competitions that ensure events are fair, safe, and run in accordance with national and international rules. The Canada Snowboard Officials Program includes several levels of training, starting from community-level events to higher-level provincial, national, and international competitions.
Officials are trained to perform tasks such as:
Managing timing and scoring.
Ensuring competitions adhere to safety regulations.
Overseeing event rules and judging.
