Get ready for snowboarding at the 2019 Canada Winter Games! Red Deer, Alberta, will host the 14th edition of the Canada Winter Games from February 15 until March 3, 2019. Get ready for snowboarding at the 2019 Canada Winter Games!

Red Deer, Alberta, will host the 14th edition of the Canada Winter Games from February 15 until March 3, 2019. Snowboarders will be joined by athletes from 18 different sports, culminating in the largest multi-sport event to be hosted in Alberta since the 1988 Olympics in Calgary.

Alberta Snowboarding has initiated a criteria to qualify for the 2019 Alberta Snowboard Team which will compete in the 2019 Canada Winter Games (CWG) in Red Deer, AB, being held February 15th to March 3rd, 2019. All Snowboard events will take place in the second week of the Games between February 24 to March 3, 2019.

Selections for the CWG 2019 Alberta Snowboard Team will be made in accordance with the Alberta Snowboarding Team Selection Criteria and Related Procedures for Canada Winter Games 2019.

Eligibility by discipline

SLOPESTYLE EVENT

Maximum age is 17 years old as of December 31, 2018

Minimum age is 13 years old as of December 31, 2018

Year of Birth: 2001-2005 inclusive

 

HALF-PIPE EVENT

Maximum age is 17 years old as of December 31, 2018

Minimum age is 13 years old as of December 31, 2018

Year of Birth: 2001-2005 inclusive

 

PARALLEL GIANT SLALOM EVENT

Maximum age is 19 years old as of December 31, 2018

Minimum age is 15 years old as of December 31, 2018

Year of Birth: 1999-2003 inclusive

 

SBX EVENT

Maximum age is 19 years old as of December 31, 2018

Minimum age is 15 years old as of December 31, 2018

Year of Birth: 1999-2003 inclusive.

 

Excluded from the Canada Games are:

  • Senior National Team athletes*;
  • Athletes who do not meet the date of birth requirements as determined in section 3 of the Technical Package;
  • Athletes that have held an SR1 or SR2 card (as defined by Sport Canada Athlete Assistance program) at any time;
  • Athletes who have previously competed at the following events: Senior World Championships, Olympic Games, or FISU Games

 

Necessary Selection Process and Events for Selection:

Submit application to events@albertasnowboarding.com before September 1st, 2018.

1 minute video

Biography/snowboard Resume

Letter of interest

 

Selection Criteria:

50% Competition results from 2017/18 season

25% Dryland Session

25% On-snow Camp

To be eligible for selection, interested snowboarders must take part in the following training camps (unless given an exemption):

Dryland session – October 13th 2pm (Tentative)

On-snow Camp – November 10th-11th @ Sunshine (Tentative)

 

Mandatory commitment for CWG in 2019:

January 19th-20th – Staging event in Red Deer

February 24th to March 3rd, 2019 – Canada Winter Games (exact event dates TBD)

Athletes must be residence of Alberta, with an active ASA Competitive membership and be in good standing with Alberta Snowboarding.

 

Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will be comprised of the 2019 Alberta Snowboard Team staff, Alberta Snowboarding staff and Alberta Snowboarding Board of Directors.

 

The team selection will take place at the beginning of December 2018 and the results will be released as soon as it is officially ratified.
